Our History Tells a Story
Stones Sharp has stood the test of time, providing professional and personalised services to our many loyal clients since the 1940’s.
First established by Ron Jennings, Stones Sharp began trading in Melbourne CBD. As the practice grew, the team moved to a larger premises in Little Collins Street, sharing with a fellow Public Practitioner, John Wiggin.
In 1971, Barry Stones became a Partner of the firm, which was then known as RM Jennings and Associates. Following Ron Jenning’s retirement and a merger with John Wiggin, the name we proudly wear today began to emerge, as we became known as Jennings Wiggin and Stones, with Barry Stones and John Wiggin as Partners.
Jennings Wiggin and Stones continued to operate from the Little Collins Street premises, and, on the 1st July 1980, following the retirement of John Wiggin, Ken Sharp joined Barry Stones in Partnership.
The transition to Stones Sharp
In 1988, the business was renamed Stones Sharp, and in 1993, we moved to Kew, first on Cotham Road before finding our new home on High Street in July 2024.
In 2005, Barry Stones became a consultant to Stones Sharp, and by 2007, Shane Borg joined the team. In 2009, Ken Sharp transitioned to a consultancy role, with Shane Borg taking a seat as Partner.
Stones Sharp continues to offer personalised professional tax advice and services with Shane Borg as Director, along with Ken Sharp and Barry Stones continuing to consult to the Practice, offering many years of experience, knowledge, and expertise.
Evolving With Our Clients
Since the 1940s, Stones Sharp has grown alongside the businesses, self managed superannuation funds, and individuals we support. While the firm’s foundations were built on traditional accounting and compliance services, the needs of our clients have changed significantly over time, and so has our offering.
As regulations became more complex, businesses more dynamic, and financial decisions more interconnected, our role naturally expanded beyond year-end reporting and tax returns. We adapted by broadening our services, investing in expertise, and taking a more proactive, advisory-led approach to how we operate.
Stones Sharp Today
Now, our expertise is centred on truly understanding our clients and their businesses. This allows us to deliver considered professional judgement across taxation, business advisory, self managed superannuation funds, structuring, succession planning, bookkeeping, corporate compliance, and guidance through finance and taxation changes. The focus remains consistent: practical guidance tailored to each client’s circumstances and delivered by people who understand the detail behind the numbers.

Compared to twenty or thirty years ago, our role today is more proactive, more strategic, and more closely involved in client decision-making.
